Job Description - Finance Manager

 

  • The Financial Manager is responsible for all aspects of financial management, ensuring compliance with internal policies and procedures and the flow of accurate and timeous financial data to stakeholders.
  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department and is responsible for the effective use and deployment of staff and financial resources.
  • Establish, maintain, and continuously improve processes and tools to effectively coordinate and manage areas critical in business, such as cash flow management, margin improvement, controls, systems and reporting.
  • Provide leadership to a team of finance professionals to create a high-performance team.

 

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION

 

  • Qualified CA
  • 5+ Years Financial experience including knowledge of strategic and financial planning, reporting and budgeting
  • Working knowledge of IFRS/Relevant accounting framework
  • Accounting- or financial regulatory body certification
  • Advanced Computer literacy, with specific reference to Excel
  • Knowledge of ITS/NAV will be an added benefit

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Financial responsibility for the financial functions and controls of the business
  • Budgeting and financial reporting
  • Management of Debtors and Creditors
  • Produce and distribute monthly management reports within agreed timeframes
  • Produce detailed monthly cash flow forecasts, strict control over payment terms and manage payments and inter-account transfers
  • Produce financial reports detailing actual expenditure against forecasts
  • Develop annual budgets in collaboration with divisional heads and Financial Executive.
  • Manage the payroll system and benefit schemes and ensure monthly payments are made according to requirements (Tax Authorities, Pension Fund, Medical aid etc)
  • Manage the rights and obligations of employees
  • Manage individual records of employees and archive them
  • Implement the local labour code / practices
  • Assist the General Manager in recruitment procedures
  • Prepare personnel management documentation (contract of employment, confidentiality agreements, leave monitoring etc
  • Ensure compliance with legal or regulatory procedures regarding working conditions
  • Manage relations with employee representative bodies
  • Lead on tax planning, including all various taxes. Have knowledge on the various taxes and able to complete the applicable returns correctly and timeously
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements relating to financial control, financial management and accounting.
  • Ensure appropriate external audit arrangements are in place and manage the audit process
  • Ensure all balance sheet reconciliations are produced accurately and timeously
  • Ensure implementation and adherence to financial policies and procedures
  • Responsible for managing the fixed cost base of the business within specific parameters and initiating cost saving initiatives
  • Responsible for procurement and commercial relationships with suppliers
  • Leading the in-country finance team
  • Provide team leadership by providing targets and measures for productivity and increased revenue flow

  • Deliver services in a way that is timely, and data and information is accurate and understandable
  • Build collaborative relationships with key stakeholders in order to understand their requirements
  • Continuously innovate and be creative in order to improve quality and timeliness of deliverables

 

Strategy, Analysis and Planning Measures

 

  • Support the Budget Planning & Reporting team with inputs and explanations as the case may be

Reporting

  • Analyse Division(s) performance, compare actual vs. forecast and variance analysis
  • Manage and assist Division(s) in their financial performance cycle
  • Provide timely financial information to inform and influence operational decisions, such as income statements, accurate Management accounts and proper Fixed Asset registers

 

Decision Support

 

  • Participate in management and leadership forums of the supported business units in order to influence business decisions to align with finance objectives of the business unit and group
  • Participate in business and operational activities to enable business to meet their operational and strategic objectives
  • Develop financial models for business cases to enable business decision making
  • Support finance strategy, policies and process implementation

 

Financial Control

 

  • Create and apply rigorous and simple business processes and procedures in executions of responsibilities
  • Balance Sheet verification of all revenue related accounts, i.e. Accounts Receivable, Bad Debts, other provisions and oversight over Debtor's Ageing
  • Monitor and ensure the integrity of data used or generated and liaise with the appropriate people to initiate amendments
  • Constantly review operational processes for business improvement potential and contribute to divisional performance through innovation and suggested improvements
  • Coordinate and facilitate Audits and ensure timely implementation of agreed to findings
  • Take full responsibility of Division(s) trial balance, both Balance Sheet accounts and all Expense accounts

 

Asset Management

 

  • Ensure correct allocation/ capitalisation to capital categories of operational costs incurred relating to capital projects
  • Own all divisions asset accounts - sign off on monthly recons and ensure compliance to IFRS/Applicable accounting Framework, including fair value assessments and provisions, where applicable
